Iranian film ‘Careless Crime’ to vie at Chicago fest

Iranian film ‘Careless Crime’ is to compete at the 2020 Chicago Int’l Filmfest in the US.

Iranian film ‘Careless Crime’ has been selected to compete at the 56th Chicago International Film Festival in the US.

Going back to forty years ago, Shahram Mokri's movie is set during the uprising to overthrow the Shah’s regime in Iran.

Then, protestors set fire to movie theaters as a way of showing opposition to Western culture and burned down many cinemas.

In one tragic case, a theater was set on fire with four hundred people inside and most of them were burned alive.

Now in contemporary Iran, after forty years, four individuals also decide to burn down a movie theater.

They have targeted a movie theater that is showing a film about an unearthed, unexploded missile.

Babak Karimi, Razieh Mansouri, and Abolfazl Kahani are on the cast list of ‘Careless Crime’.

‘Careless Crime’ was premiered at the Orizzonti section of the 77th Venice Film Festival in Italy before.

The Chicago festival showcases films from around the world. The event is an effort to promote a deeper understanding of diverse cultures.

The festival is scheduled to kick off on October 14-25, 2020.
